Xenex is extremely grateful for the relationships we’ve built with hospitals and healthcare advocates who have embraced our LightStrike UV technology to help prevent the transmission of harmful germs and championed the robots’ integration into their everyday operations. As we approach the holiday season, we’d like to highlight a couple of them and share their stories.
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center was the very first hospital to integrate LightStrike UV robots to help reduce pathogen transmission among their immunocompromised patient population. Back in 2011, they were also the first hospital to publish a peer-reviewed study showing statistically significant reductions in bacteria when our LightStrike robots were used in patient rooms. Fast-forward about a decade, they are still a customer – and they were the first hospital system to deploy our FDA-authorized LightStrike+ robot—the first FDA-authorized UV robot for Whole-Room Microbial Reduction.
It is encouraging to see the growing number of healthcare leaders who have the vision to embrace and drive the adoption of new technologies. Over 1,000 hospitals have implemented LightStrike UV robots into their cleaning and disinfection process – and we are thrilled when we hear from them about the success of their programs. They’ve reported to us about the robots’ effectiveness in rapidly deactivating harmful pathogens and ease of integration into hospital operations.
In fact, over 45 studies have been published by hospital customers demonstrating reductions in pathogens like C. diff, MRSA, VRE (and others) after integrating LightStrike robots into their cleaning and disinfection protocols. There’s also a volume of news stories and customer success stories from hospitals announcing their LightStrike initiative and ensuing results.
We’re thankful for advocacy groups and organizations like the Peggy Lillis and C. diff Foundation, Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE), Association for PeriOpreative Registered Nurses (AORN), Louise Batz Patient Safety Foundation, and the MRSA Survivors Network. They champion and establish standards for patient safety, healthcare cleanliness and/or provide support to people who are suffering from diseases.
We also want to take a moment and express our heartfelt thanks to the remarkable healthcare innovators and progressive hospitals who have helped us become the company we are today. Just to name a few of the hospitals caring for some of the most vulnerable patients that incorporated LightStrike to improve cleanliness: Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Mayo Clinic Health System, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and University Hospital (San Antonio). We are grateful for the hard-working EVS team members, nurses, OR staff, and Infection Preventionists who run our robots and manage their LightStrike programs.
There is a screen at Xenex HQ which displays the number of cycles run by LightStrike robots. As we start this Thanksgiving week, nearly 42 million LightStrike cycles have been completed by our customers (since we began counting)! Can you imagine how many harmful germs have been stopped in their tracks? There’s undeniable evidence that the more you run your LightStrike robots, the more you reduce the risk of pathogen transmission – something that can’t be done with liquid chemical cleaning alone.
Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the hospitals that want to do more for their patients – the hospitals who recognize LightStrike as an essential component of their cleaning and disinfection strategy and the healthcare leaders who advocate for a world where pathogen transmission is greatly reduced.
